These photos are taken in Szoborpark, Budapest . The park was built in 1993 and contains sculptures from the socialistic period in Budapest.

In the year of 2004 I visited Murmansk and I had a very special encounter with the Alyosha statue. Alyosha was installed in 1974 on a hill above the city of Murmansk as a remembrance to ”the defenders of the Soviet North during the Great Patriotic War 1941 — 1945”. I was quite unprepared and that might explain my reactions. He was too big, too much man, too cold in his eyes, too much war – simply too much, so I cried. I guess I was mostly angry and disappointed.

Afterwards I am trying to understand. I am thinking that I might have been spared from war so I maybe I do not understand why one should honor someone like Alyosha – but my heart says that there are many ways to remember and honor. These photos are a way for me to try to understand an ideology and a male world
